1. Who We Are

NewsPlay (“we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Northover Media, Inc., a corporation incorporated in the State of Delaware, United States, with operations based in Perth, Western Australia, Australia. We provide a free live news streaming service through our website at newsplays.com and our native apps on Android (phone, tablet, and Google TV) and Amazon Fire TV. (Collectively, the “Service”.) Our website is ad-supported; the NewsPlay apps do not carry advertising.

Our Service is primarily intended for users in the United States. We also serve international users, including those in Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and other countries. Where your jurisdiction grants you specific privacy rights, those are addressed below.

2. Scope

This Policy covers all personal information collected when you use the Service — including newsplays.com, the NewsPlay Android app (which also runs on Google TV devices), and the NewsPlay Fire TV app — whether collected directly by us or through third-party tools.

3. NewsPlay Apps — Per-Platform Data Practices

NewsPlay is available as native apps on multiple platforms. The apps do not serve advertising, do not collect a device advertising identifier, and do not include any analytics or crash-reporting SDK. The only data the apps process is described below.

NewsPlay Android app (also runs on Google TV)

  • Requires no account, login, or registration
  • Contains no in-app purchases
  • Does not serve advertising and does not collect a device advertising identifier
  • Does not include any analytics, crash-reporting, or measurement SDK
  • Collects approximate location (city level) for regional channel delivery where supported by the device
  • Stores user preferences (last channel viewed, channel order, favourites) locally on the device only
  • All network traffic is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS where supported by the upstream broadcaster

NewsPlay Fire TV app

  • Requires no account, login, or registration
  • Contains no in-app purchases
  • Streams publicly available live news feeds directly from broadcaster CDNs
  • Does not serve advertising and does not collect a device advertising identifier
  • Subject to the privacy practices of the underlying Amazon Fire TV platform

If we introduce in-app advertising, analytics, or other data collection in a future release, we will update this Policy and our Google Play Data safety declaration before such changes take effect.

4. Information We Collect on the Website (newsplays.com)

Our app data practices are described in Section 3 above. The website (newsplays.com) collects the following:

Information you provide

  • Contact and support messages submitted via the website
  • Newsletter and alert sign-ups (where applicable)

Information collected automatically on the website

  • Usage data: pages viewed, clicks, session duration, referrer URL
  • Device and technical data: IP address, approximate location (city level), browser type, device type, operating system
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 6)
  • Advertising and conversion data via pixels and tags

Information from third parties

  • Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • Advertising platforms (e.g., Google Ads, Meta Ads)
  • Embedded media providers — governed by their own policies

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information such as health data, financial account numbers, government identifiers, or precise geolocation. Please do not submit such information.

Third-party opt-outs

The NewsPlay apps do not use cookies, do not serve in-app advertising, and do not collect a device advertising identifier. The cookies and trackers described in this section apply to newsplays.com only.

7. How We Share Your Information

Service providers. Companies that help us operate the Service (hosting, analytics, advertising, email, consent management). These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may only use it as directed by us.

Advertising partners (website only). To keep newsplays.com free, we work with advertising partners on our website who may receive a device advertising identifier and related signals to serve and measure ads on the site. You can opt out as described in Section 6. Our apps do not share data with advertising partners.

Legal requirements. When required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of substantially all assets, with appropriate notice.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Because newsplays.com uses advertising identifiers for advertising on the website, certain website disclosures may be treated as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under some U.S. state laws; you may opt out as described in Section 8.

8. Your U.S. Privacy Rights

All U.S. users. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, how we use it, and to request access or deletion. Contact us at privacy@newsplays.com.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

  • Know what personal information we have collected, used, disclosed, or shared
  • Delete your personal information (subject to certain exceptions)
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, including for cross-context behavioural advertising
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your rights

To submit a California privacy request, email privacy@newsplays.com with “California Privacy Request” in the subject line.

Other U.S. states. Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, and other states with applicable privacy laws have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

9. International Users

Australia. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). For unresolved complaints, contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

European Union & United Kingdom (GDPR/UK GDPR). Our legal bases include contract performance, legitimate interests, consent, and legal obligation. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing. Contact your local Data Protection Authority for unresolved complaints.

All international users. Data may be processed in the United States and/or Australia. By using the Service, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in these jurisdictions. We implement appropriate safeguards where required by applicable law.

11. Data Deletion Requests

NewsPlay apps do not maintain user accounts. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, advertising identifiers, diagnostics, or any directly identifying information for app use. The only data the apps process associated with your device is approximate location (where permitted), used to surface regional channels.

How to request deletion

  • Email privacy@newsplays.com from any address, stating that you are requesting deletion under this Policy.
  • We will process your request and confirm completion within 30 days.

What is retained

Standard server logs (from newsplays.com) are retained for up to 90 days for security and fraud-prevention purposes. Anonymised, aggregated statistics may be retained indefinitely as they cannot be linked to any individual device or person.

12. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organisational security measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. No method of internet transmission or storage is 100% secure.

13. Children's Privacy

NewsPlay is a general-audience live news service and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 in accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), or from children under the age of consent in other jurisdictions. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@newsplays.com and we will promptly delete it.

14. Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control

We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals. Where required by applicable law, we will honour Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a valid opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information.

15. Third-Party Links and Embeds

The Service links to and embeds content and live streams from third-party platforms (e.g., broadcaster CDNs and video players). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their policies.

16. Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach creating a material risk of harm, we will notify affected individuals and relevant regulatory authorities as required under applicable U.S. state laws, the Australian Privacy Act, and/or the GDPR.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, by posting a notice on the Service or emailing you.
